Type Locality and Naming

Southernmost Jilin. The Dataishan Fm was named by the Southern Jilin Party of Regional Geological Survey, Changchun College of Geological Exploration in 1960. The type section is located in Erdaoyangcha, 6 km northeast of Datai Mountain in Hunjiang City, Jilin Province. Lowermost (5 of 5) formation in Laoling Gr. Lowermost (1 of 5) formation in Laoling Gr.

Synonym: (达台山组)


Lithology and Thickness

The Dataishan Fm is mainly composed of feldspar quartzite, magnetite-bearing mica quartzite and sericite quartz schist. Several beds of meta-conglomerate are intercalated near the base. Lower part of the formation is quartzite. Middle part consists of sericite marble, tremolite marble intercalated with phyllite and sericite schist. Upper part of the formation is composed of graphite schist intercalated with lenticular marble and locally phosphorite. The andalusite carbonaceous slate near the top of the formation is used as a marker bed for the formation. The formation is 820 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The formation rests unconformably on the Ji'an Gr. The base also unconformably rests on the Yangjiadian Fm of the Longgang Gr (not in Lexicon?).

Upper contact

It is in conformable contact with the overlying Zhenzhumen Fm.

Regional extent

Southernmost Jilin. It is distributed on both banks of Hunjiang River, and the typical section is located at south bank, while at north bank of Hunjiang River.

In the section in Taiping Township, it yields stromatolites: Conophyton.
